  • This is gonna be about religion.  For years, folks have been getting upset when they think that a perfect God created an imperfect world.  Shit happens and some people lose their “faith”–”Oh God, how could you let this happen?” they moan.  Or they go Satanist, figuring that this world is so nasty that only Satan could have created it.  And what about all those nutty Christians who for years felt that bathing was sinful since it involved nudity?  So why does all this shit happen?  And why, you may ask, does it all have to happen to little me?

Two words: free will.  God gave us two great gifts, life and free will.  Every bad thing that happens, weather and stuff excepted, happens because you, or someone, made a decision that was not in your best interest.  Come to think of it, maybe you could include the weather, since the ozone layer isn’t exactly going away by itself.

For your edification, I close with a hymn written by that eminent British theologian, Eric Idle.

    All things dull and ugly
    All creatures short and squat
    All things rude and nasty
The Lord God made the lot.

    Each little snake that poisons
    Each little wasp that stings
    He made their brutish venom
    He made their horrid wings.

    All things sick and cancerous
    All evil great and small
    All things foul and dangerous
The Lord God made them all.

    Each nasty little hornet
    Each beastly little squid
    Who made the spikey urchin?
Who made the sharks? He did.

    All things scabbed and ulcerous
All pox both great and small
    Putrid foul and gangrenous
The Lord God made them all.
    AMEN

  • Don’t you just love Eric Idle?   ~Spot~

  • The phrase is “little ol’ me”. Surely you haven’t forgotten, or thought no one would notice the elimination thereof. But, if it doesn’t apply I can understand that.
I really like and appreciate this poem here. It’s very clever; I’ll have to print it out and save it.
As a counter-argument (you expected anything less?) to the free will stance, since free will on our part and a series of laws pertaining to the inanimate world, and a laddering of intelligence created by God in the world of living things or lack thereof if you’d like the argument that way, is the cause of all suffering I cannot see how you could logically prove, against all the posturings of the Hindu sages, that God is anything less than the cause of all things and occurences. But if it makes you happy, that is reason enough and I agree with you on this.

  • People believe what they want to believe.  Some of them choose to believe what comforts them; others choose to believe whatever confirms their theories and suspicions.  You, my dear, are people, too.  I, on the other hand, as you like to remind me, am not.  I believe it’s time for me to transcend my beliefs.

  • i’m not people either. but not in the good way.

  • Personally (and in my opinion religion should be unique and personal) I’ve found that all (or most at least) of the bad shit in this world stems from fear. Which is fucked up because a lot of the time people only turn to religion out of fear of death. Bad news. But thankfully, it seems as if more and more people are beginning to realize that spirituality is a way to improve life rather than avoid death.

  • *giggle* Monty Python strikes again!….*HUGS*~Z

  • Now you got me doubtin’. God didn’t make this here Roadrunner, I did!
